Umatilla County Circuit Court Judge Lynn Hampton sentenced Joseph Quintana Jr., 35, for the July 2010 death of Allen Anthony Spencer and a subsequent assault on the corrections officer.

Spencer was found lying injured on the ground at the Pendleton Woolen Mills on July 23, 2010. He died later from injuries caused by Quintana, who confessed to the crime two years later. A Umatilla grand jury indicted Quintana on manslaughter charge in July 2012. While in jail awaiting his trail, Quintana was involved in an altercation with another inmate and assaulted a Umatilla County corrections officer who broke up the fight.

On Feb. 20, 2014, the grand jury indicted Quintana on assault charges. On Tuesday Quintana pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and assaulting a public safety officer.
