Ted Travis Passes Away at 71

Theodore John “Ted” Travis of Umatilla passed away unexpectedly at his home in Umatilla on Aug. 10, 2025 at the age of 71.

He was born on Aug. 19, 1953 in Ontario to John and Mildred Ray Travis.

Ted grew up in Ontario, where he attended school and graduated from high school. He later moved to Wallowa County, where he worked for the Wallowa County Grain Growers in Enterprise for many years and lived in nearby Joseph. He then transferred to the Union County Grain Growers Association, where he worked for a time until an accident forced him to seek a different type of work. He then attended Blue Mountain Community College, where he studied drafting. He worked as a draftsman for a short time. He moved to Prineville in 1993, where he worked as a rock crusher operator for several years. He moved to Umatilla in 2009, where he had resided for the past 16 years.

Ted enjoyed fishing and hunting, watching football and baseball on television and coaching a softball team when his daughter was in school in Cove. He proudly served as a volunteer fireman when he lived in Wallowa County for many years. His family remembers Ted as a very kind, generous and patient person who will be missed by all of his family.

Ted married Suzanne Simonis in Joseph on Aug. 19, 1983.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Suzanne; children, Mark, Misty, Kristy, Cassandra, Angelica and Elizabeth; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles and Nick; sisters, Kay, Beverly and Becky; and many extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Bobby; and a granddaughter, Areceli “Cheli.”

Arrangements are pending and will be announced at a later time.
