PENDLETON, Ore.-Scheduled road maintenance work will affect traffic in Pendleton starting June 15.
The 2026 slurry seal project will impact 34 paved areas this year, causing temporary closures on multiple streets, according to the City of Pendleton.
Slurry seal is a maintenance process that extends the life of asphalt that has begun to deteriorate, without having to perform a costly overlay.
Roads that will be slurry sealed were rated as satisfactory or good condition in Pendleton’s Pavement Management Program Option Report, an inventory of all city-owned streets and public parking lots.
Roads will need to be closed during and immediately after the slurry seal, according to the city, and barricades will be set up during the work and while the material sets after being applied.
On-street parking will not be allowed, and no parking signs will be posted before the work begins. Cars parked in the work zone will be towed.
Each area is expected to be closed for less than a day and the entire slurry seal project should be completed by the end of June, according to the City.
Doolittle Construction out of Snoqualmie, Washington will perform the slurry sealing in Pendleton.
According to the City of Pendleton, funding for the $232,000 slurry seal project comes from the Street Maintenance Fund, including Street Utility fee revenue and funding from the State Surface Transportation Program, which is dedicated to surface asphalt preservation.
