SALEM, Ore.-With the passage of an emergency transportation budget on September 29, the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is now hiring winter maintenance staff.
House Bill 3991, which will raise $4.3 billion over the next 10 years to fund road maintenance and operations through taxes and fees, passed by an 18-11 vote along party lines and averted what were expected to be the largest layoffs in Oregon State history.
“ODOT will move as quickly as possible to fill vacancies, restore staffing levels and deliver the critical services Oregonians rely on in winter,” said Kris Strickler, ODOT Director.
Due to a hiring freeze to save money, and without a budget in place until last week, ODOT maintenance positions were left vacant, and seasonal staff were not hired, something the department usually does over the summer.
ODOT is now looking to hire both permanent and seasonal maintenance positions across the state, and training is available for applicants who do not already have commercial driver’s licenses or experience providing winter maintenance.
More information on available job openings and the application process is available online through ODOT.
